SELECTING A STREET TREE
Upon your request, Canopy will plant a street tree in front of your house. There's no charge; the City pays for the tree and hires Canopy to do the work. All you have to do is agree to talk with a Canopy consultant who'll help you select a site for the tree and the best kinds of trees for the site. For some blocks the City has designated a species to give the block a uniform look.
For the tree to do well, someone must care for it during its first five years (it takes five years to plant a tree, the saying goes). Care means watering in summer, adjusting the supporting stakes, and simple pruning. It's best if you volunteer to be the tree's caretaker because you see the tree every day and have an incentive to keep it healthy; if at any time you need help, Canopy is just a phone call away. However, if you can't take on the care taking, a Canopy volunteer will "adopt" the tree if you give us permission to use your hose for watering.
