I know, I know, this isn't really a toy, but it is an artifact. In the summer of 1962 I stood in the candy store of Disneyland's Main Street USA and lusted after this enormous and-to my twisted little mind-beautiful sucker. In fact, I ended up spending nearly all the money in the key-fob pocket of my jeans to buy it: $3.99. Then, to my sister's outrage and disbelief, I never ate it. This was the first sign my mother had of what I was going to be when I grew up: a collector.

Today the cellophane wrapper is cracked and the candy coil is soft enough to sink a fingernail into, but it's colors are still bright as a sweet surpise. I say, what a testimony to the preservative power of sugar!
